Scottish psychedelic rock’n’roll band Miracle Glass Company handpick some of their favourite tracks for our guest mixtape.

As well as releasing their critically acclaimed debut album, MGC1 in 2016, the Edinburgh trio also established themselves as one of the most exciting live bands in Scotland

The album was produced by legendary producer Owen Morris (Oasis, The Verve, The Fratellis, Ash) and received rave reviews from the likes of BBC Scotland’s Vic Galloway and Amazing Radio’s Jim Gellatly who both featured the album in their “best of 2016” lists.

Comprising William Douglas (vocals / bass), Andy Duncan (vocals / drums) and Austen George (vocals / guitar) the band push the boundaries of what a 3-piece can achieve, all writing songs, taking turns on lead vocals and creating a wall of sound with their incredible musicianship and 3-part harmonies.

Miracle Glass Company are a welcome burst of energy with a nod to 60s and 70s classic guitar and harmony groups with a touch of fuzzy psychedelic pop to it all.  As our very own Andy wrote here back in May 2016, Miracle Glass Company are the “bastard offspring of The Beatles and Canned Heat.”

The band released their latest single, “T.R.O.U.B.L.E” via VoxBox Records on 28th April 2017, the fourth single to be taken from their debut album.

The single release will be accompanied by a psychedelic animated video created by Scott Morriss, bass player with 90s chart-toppers The Bluetones.

William:

1.Half Full Glass Of Wine – Tame Impala
There’s a brilliant little recording trick at the start of this song, where they’ve sped up the track for the first few seconds and then bring it back down just in time for the heavy riff to kick in… It’s tremendous.

2.Holidays On The Moon –  Jon Mackenzie
It’s a sci-fi country ballad, and there aren’t enough of those really. Also, the video shows him tripping out in Voxbox Records, Edinburgh. If you look closely they’ve got MGC1 by Miracle Glass Company on the shelf.
3. Love – Lana Del Rey
Another video that’s partly set in outer space. It seems like there are a lot of folk who want to get off the planet at the moment. I like Lana, her records sound great, and she looks cool. Love the bit where she winks the camera…
Austen:
4. Helplessly Hoping – Crosby, Stills & Nash
Important song for me as its harmonies were extraordinary upon first listen. An excellent song. Beautiful and a must for all lovers of harmony.
5. Magnolia – J.J. Cale
One of his finest and on arguably his greatest album, Naturally. It’s all about the behind the beat. Lush.
6. If I Had A Tail – Queens of the Stone Age
Class. All I can say is I love ’em. One of the best happening currently.

Andy:
7. Higher Ground – Stevie Wonder
The groove on this song is just irresistable. The fact that Stevie play every instrument on it himself makes it all the more impressive. I’m also drawn to the lyrics which cover a myriad of struggle, social issues, positivity, redemption and ultimately a determined optimism. Classic.

8. Voodoo Child (Slight Return), The Jimi Hendrix Experience
For me when it comes to guitar players Jimi was the ultimate master. There are other players who can really make there guitar sing like B.B. King, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour but when Jimi played it sounded like it was talking to you from another world, expressing Jimi’s innermost feelings. This track is a perfect example.

9. Bodysnatchers – Radiohead
I’m a big Radiohead fan for their ability to transport me completely to another place. Put the headphones on or crank this up in the car and watch me move!

Band:
10. Song of Love – Stephen Stills
We’ve been touring the UK a lot over the last year or so and both Manassas (formed by Stepen Stills) albums have been staples on the CD player. Pretty much every long journey includes Manassas at some point. This is the opener to their debut album and should give you a taste of why we keep coming back to it.
