Scottish artist, Tamzene emerges from lockdown with a stripped back collection of songs on her EP, ‘home tapes’.
The four track EP was written during the covid pandemic and self-recorded on her family piano at her childhood home in the remote town of Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands.
The ‘home tapes’ EP showcases her soulful voice beautifully on these stripped back and delicate recordings. They are in stark contrast to the dark and moody pop synths on previous tracks like “You’re With Somebody Now” which strangely, along with another few tracks, seem to have vanished from various streaming platforms. Is another change of direction imminent and is this the sign of bigger and better things for the Highland artist? All eyes on Tamzene in 2022.
Tamzene says of the EP: “home tapes came from months spent writing from my childhood home in the Scottish Highlands. Although the spring/summer of 2020 was a difficult and dark time for everyone, I was able to find solace in meeting new collaborators via Zoom, and recording the songs with my own simple home set-up. This is what kept me going, and with these songs I focused on capturing more than just demos, crafting a little world for them all. I’m so proud of these songs and happy that I’m able to share them now, I hope they can speak to some shared experiences and find new meanings.”
