Scottish indie-noir rock band, Lional have announced their farewell gig.
After a couple years of inactivity, Lional have decided to pull the curtain down for now. The band will play a farewell gig at Upstairs Inverness on Saturday 6th April 2024.
The band, who formed sometime around late 2013 went on to sign to independent label IMOUT Records and released their debut single Season of Salt in 2016.
Drawing inspiration from the melancholic essence of post-punk pioneers like The Smiths and Joy Division, the Inverness based band’s sonic landscape often draws comparisons to contemporary acts such as Interpol, Arctic Monkeys, and Franz Ferdinand. Their debut EP ‘My Design’ garnered widespread critical acclaim nationwide, receiving airplay on esteemed platforms like Vic Galloway’s BBC Radio Scotland show, MFR, and Jim Gellatly’s XFM radio show. Further releases earned them recognition such as Artist of the Week in The Scottish Sun and further play across the airwaves.
In 2019 the band supported Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds, Edwyn Collins and a triumphant main stage performance at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.
The band have been on a hiatus since their single and EP releases in 2021 with lead singer/songwriter, Joshua Mackenzie focussing on his project, The Joshua Hotel.
The band posted this statement on their social media platforms:
“After a couple of years of relative inactivity, we have decided to draw a line under the band for now and go on an indefinite hiatus. We hope that at some point in the future our individual circumstances will align and the door may open for us to return one day, but this performance will certainly be the last opportunity to see Lional for a long time.
Although we would have loved to have experienced more exposure and success as a band from the highlands, it has undoubtedly been a wonderful decade of our lives and the experiences have been invaluable.
It would be lovely if you all came along to celebrate our history.”
