Celtic Connections 2025: A Spotlight on Emerging Grassroots Talent
As Glasgow ushers in a new year the city’s vibrant music scene prepares to come alive once again with Celtic Connections 2025. Renowned for its rich tapestry of traditional Scottish music, the festival has also carved out a reputation as a haven for emerging grassroots talent, indie innovators, and genre-defying artists. This year promises an eclectic blend of fresh voices and established alt-favourites, offering a platform for new stories and bold sonic adventures.
Featuring approximately 1,200 musicians and artists performing at around 25 venues throughout Glasgow, the world-renowned festival of folk, roots, and world music will light up the city from Thursday, January 16 to Sunday, February 2. Now celebrating its 32nd edition, Celtic Connections expects to welcome around 110,000 attendees this year. As always, the 2025 lineup offers a rich tapestry of genres, including acoustic, traditional, Americana, orchestral, indie, jazz, blues, experimental, and more.
Multi-GRAMMY-award-winning Americana singer Lyle Lovett will make his long-awaited debut at the festival when he headlines this January. Joining him on the star-studded bill are shows from Scottish icon KT Tunstall, GRAMMY-award-winning American artist Madison Cunningham, and the powerful jazz and soul singer-songwriter Lady Blackbird.
BBC MG ALBA Scots Singer of the Year Beth Malcolm will bring her evocative voice to the stage, while homegrown talent in the form of Karine Polwart and Julie Fowlis will present landmark performances that celebrate Scotland’s rich musical heritage.
Adding to the excitement, Western Isles wonders Peat and Diesel will play their biggest-ever show, making history as the first band to perform at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow’s east end.
Meanwhile, much-loved Glaswegian indie-pop legends The Bluebells will take to the stage at the Barrowland Ballroom, promising to have the crowd feeling ‘young at heart’ during their first-ever outing at the festival.
