Dr Wook & The Hollow Pines Debut a Stirring New Chapter at An Seòmar
Sunday 28 December saw An Seòmar brim with local music lovers for a special end-of-year gig, as people emerged from Christmas Day feasts and Boxing Day excess to congregate once more around live music. With faces old and new with and plenty returning home for the holidays. There was a genuine warmth in the room, a shared glow that set the perfect backdrop for the debut performance of Dr Wook & The Hollow Pines.
From the very first notes, Kris Douglas and his stellar band delivered a set that beautifully balanced introspective folk-rooted storytelling with bursts of electrifying energy, a sound that feels both timeless and urgently alive. The standouts Wildflower Girl and Willow Knows The Wind showcased new material that already feels destined to be crowd favourites, with heartfelt lyrics, rich harmonies, and deft interplay between acoustic intimacy and full-band fire.
The evening opened with Willie MacAskill, whose soulful, understated performance set the tone early on. His stripped-back, intimate performance highlighted why he’s rightly regarded as one of the standout musicians in the Highlands. The Northern Waters followed, bringing a gritty, groove-laden performance that built momentum through the room and reinforced the promise shown on their recent debut single Nice To Meet Ya.
