The former Orange Juice frontman conducted his band through a career spanning set of old and new songs.
Just weeks after turning 60, Edwyn Collins made a triumphant appearance at Ironworks in Inverness with his finely tuned 6-piece band. This is a man who after suffering two cerebral haemorrhages not only had to learn how walk and speak again but also re-learn his songs. He shows no sign of taking it easy having earlier this year released his acclaimed ninth album, Badbea.
New songs like It’s All About You are witty and flourish alongside Orange Juice classics like Rip It Up and his solo 90s indie anthem, A Girl Like You.
It was a joyous night and the audience (with the occasional quiff) lapped up every moment of this emotional ride.
Supporting Edwyn Collins were Isle of Lewis band, Astrid who have recently re-formed and performed old tracks and songs from their first new album in 15 years – Fall Stand Dance released through Edwyn Collins label, AED. Also on the bill, local indie rock band Lional who’s atmospheric indie rock has surely been touched by the influences of early Orange Juice.
