Phillip Taylor from Scottish garage pop punk band, PAWS performs a new track from the bands forthcoming album and a poignant version of Frightened Rabbit’s, “The Modern Leper”.
PAWS were returning to their homeland of the Highlands of Scotland to support their mates, We Are Scientists at Ironworks in Inverness when we caught up with them for this acoustic session.
The first session track Phillip played for us was a new song, “Not Enough” – the first new material we have heard since the bands cracking and energetic 2016 album, No Grace. Phillip Taylor’s songwriting sounds the most honest and raw that we’ve heard in this stripped back acoustic version.
Phillip wanted to do two tracks for us, the second being a cover of Frightened Rabbit’s, “The Modern Leper” as a tribute to the late Scott Hutchison. The last time PAWS played in Inverness was in December 2016, supporting Frightened Rabbit also at the Ironworks.
Touring bands aside, Scott was a friend and inspiration to Phillip. He and and drummer Josh Swinney grew up in the Highlands listening to and taking inspiration and courage from Scott’s songwriting. Coming back North to their hometown and the first show in Inverness since Scott’s death was journey of mixed emotions for Phillip and the band.
