Our favourite new music… March 2023.

Okay, so we are now three, oh wait almost four months, into 2023 and again, blown away by the amount of new music that has landed this year. Our New Music Playlist started slowly as it does every January but is now positively bulging.

We have listed below some notable tracks from the past three months and you can also check out our Spotify New Music Playlist which is updated and refreshed weekly.

Philip Goth – Ambient Birds

Philip Goth is the project of Josh Rawson, former member of American folk-rock collective, The Felice Brothers playing bass and writing some of the band’s songs.  “Ambient Birds” is his first new material since his debut album, released  in June 2021.

“Ambient Birds” lures you in with its drifting melody but quickly becomes a dark, industrial prayer.

The double A-side release, “Ambient Birds”/ “Wrestlemania” is out now  on Team Love Records.

Good Good Blood – When Your Wings Get Light

We are long time fans of Good Good Blood, so delighted to hear this new release from West Yorkshire based musician and founder of Fox Food Record’s, James Smith. There’s hope and light in this track which is much needed as we come out of a cold dark winter. Have Good Good Blood gone and done a party tune?  Not quite.

Fauves – Beaming

Glasgow Indie-pop masters, Fauves have dropped a brand new pulsating 80s dreamy single, “Beaming”.

The indie funk track is the bands first new release of 2023.

Al Olender – Almost Famous

“Almost Famous” is the first new material from upstate New York singer/songwriter, Al Olender since her 2022 debut full-length album Easy Crier. “Almost Famous” is a song that has been often featured in her live sets and now recorded and available here…

Amy May Ellis – ‘Rain From The East’

Bristol based, Amy May Ellis  invites you on a journey with her warm and unique folk songs steeped in the culture, scenery, folklore and wildlife of the countryside of her North York Moors upbringing that surrounded and shaped her as a child.

The gorgeous, ‘Rain From The East’ is a taster from her forthcoming debut album Over Ling and Bell, which is due for release on limited-edition eco-friendly 12” vinyl and digital platforms on May 12, 2023, and available for pre-order now.

Free Love – Dans Le Noir

Cosmic Scottish electronic pop duo Lewis and Suzi Cook AKA Free Love released their recent new album Inside, which is available via Lost Map.  Written and recorded at the band’s Glasgow home studio during lockdown. “Dans Le Noir” is a dirty, fuzzy, cosmic trip.

Sunstinger – Dead For You

Pounding, fuzzy shoegaze from 5-piece East Scotland band, Sunstinger. “Dead For You” and “Feel The Sun” are lifted from forthcoming EP,  ‘Sink’.

Erland Cooper & the Scottish Ensemble – Movement 5 – Pt.2 Instrumental

This tranquil and meditative piece is lifted from the Scottish composer’s fourth album, Folded Landscapes to be released on 5th May 2023. Focusing on hopes and fears around climate change, the album is set to feature UK Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, activist Greta Thunberg and visual artist Norman Ackroyd alongside field recordings and Coopers deeply emotional arrangements.

The Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist hails originally from Stromness in Orkney.

Siobhan Wilson – Unst Boat Song

We now set sail from Orkney to Shetland…Scottish singer/songwriter, Siobhan Wilson has released her own haunting interpretation of Shetland’s oldest surviving song.  The old Norse sea prayer was recored in Wilson’s home studio in the Scottish Borders.
