Rosie H Sullivan’s Netsounds Session at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival

Singer-songwriter Rosie H Sullivan is emerging onto the Scottish music scene with her heartfelt new single, “What a Life”, released on Friday 7th October.

“What A Life”, the first in a string of new material,  showcases the real emotion Rosie pours into her music, as well as her impeccable voice, elegant lyricism and intuitive songwriting skills.

Originally from the Isle of Lewis and now based in Edinburgh, she radiates warmth and openness, and her story is wholly relatable. “What a Life” tells a story of endings. The track references the hindsight and heartbreak of a past relationship and of leaving home – in this case the islands – for new places, experiences and opportunities.

With a similar ethereal musical style to the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Laura Marling and Elliott Smith, Stornoway native Rosie is steadily making a name for herself.

Now working with Nettwerk Records, creating “What a Life” was Rosie’s first time working with a producer. She collaborated closely with Ross Hamilton (Seafret, Saint Phnx, Jack Savoretti), learning the art of trusting not just her own musical instincts, but that of others too.

Sullivan said: “This song is very personal and completely transparent; I wrote it at a difficult time, full of uncertainty and change. The lyrics are very close to my heart, and I think this really comes through. I needed to get into the zone for this one – I got myself back to the headspace I was in when I wrote the song and just sat and sang my emotions out.”
