Legendary guitarist Johnny Marr heads up the latest wave of acts announced for this year’s Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

Johnny Marr made his name as lead guitarist with his distinctive jangle pop guitar style and as co-songwriter (with Morrissey) in The Smiths, regarded by some as one of the most influential bands of the 1980s.  Since The Smiths disbanded in 1987 he has been a member of the Pretenders, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse and the Cribs.  He has also worked as a session guitarist with Talking Heads and Hans Zimmer.  He released his first solo album, titled The Messenger and his third solo album, Call the Comet, was released in June 2018.

This year’s Belladrum takes place on Thursday 1st – Saturday 3rd  August 2019 at Belladrum Estate, by Beauly, Inverness-shire.

Also joining the line-up will be the amazing, The Coral who released their 9th studio album Move Through the Dawn in August 2018 are an act whose diverse hybrid of psychedelia, pop-rock,  Merseybeat and country have made them one of the UK’s most interesting indie-rock acts.  Their 2002 self titled debut album which featured the hit single “Dreaming of You”, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

The Coral

Singer-songwriter Lucy Rose who we first met doing a session for Netsounds and XpoNorth back in 2011 makes her return North to the Grass Rooots Stage at Belladrum 2019.  Influenced by the likes of  Joni Mitchell and Neil Young she has collaborated with Bombay Bicycle Club and Noah & The Whale as well as appearing as guest vocalist on albums by artists such as Manic Street Preachers and Ghostpoet.  Her debut album, Like I Used To was released in 2012 and her fourth album, No Words Left is released on 22nd March 2019.

Scottish pop punk, trio, PAWS return to their home turf of the Highlands for Belladrum 2019.  The band’s new album Your Church On My Bonfire is due for release on April 26th this year.

Also announced to play Belladrum 2019 are Dodgy as part of the 25th anniversary of their break-through album Homegrown which featured the smash hit ‘Staying out for the Summer’.  

Scottish folk singer and multi instrumentalist, Julie Fowlis also joins Bella 2019 along with DIY artist and YouTube sensation Dodie.

Rock legends, Hawkwind celebrate their 50th anniversary with a huge tour taking in venues including London’s Royal Albert Hall and now closing the Hot House stage on the Thursday night at Belladrum.

Other acts announced include The Cuban Brothers, The Rezillos, The Elephant Sessions, Royal Sounds, 90’s Scottish indie-pop band Bis, New York’s beat driven funk, soul, garage duo Paris Monster, recently reformed Scottish Indie-Pop act Astrid,  Josephine Sillars & The Manic Pixie Dreams, rising Highland soulful pop artist Tamzene and more.

This year’s Belladrum headliners include Jess Glynne, CHVRCHES and Elbow with Lewis Capaldi and Tom Odell also on the line-up.
