‘I Don’t Care’ – third single from 19-year-old singer-songwriter Katie Gregson-MacLeod.
The Highlands-based indie-pop artist drew inspiration from an eclectic blend of artists for this single, including Julia Michaels, Nina Nesbitt, Fletcher and beabadoobee.
The emotionally honest lyrics are delicately wrapped in minimalistic bedroom synth-pop melody. It feels a million miles away from her striped back indie folk gigs.
‘I Don’t Care’ is the third single from the artist’s upcoming debut EP, Games I Play, to be released this summer. The track takes a darker approach to the story of a turbulent relationship told in Katie’s first two singles, ‘Still a Sad Song’ and ‘Games I Play’.
Katie said of the song: ‘I wrote ‘I Don’t Care’ about wanting more from a ‘situationship’ and the difficulty of knowing you are in deeper than the other person. That knowledge can breed more infatuation and make you want the person even more; that feeling provided the inspiration for this song.
The title encapsulates how you want to be perceived but the chorus changes that, following on: ‘I don’t care that you mean it when you say it isn’t love’. Basically, it doesn’t matter that you don’t want the same because that isn’t going to stop me feeling it all on my side.’
‘I Don’t Care’ is available to stream on Spotify now.
