Scottish singer-songwriter, Rachel Sermanni returns with enchanting new single, “Jacob”.
Sermanni captivates audiences with her performances and evocative lyrics, drawing inspiration from the mystical, dreams, nature, and the intricacies of human existence. Blending elements of contemporary folk with influences spanning jazz, rock, old-time, and traditional music, she unveils the first single from her latest musical exploration, Dreamer Awake.
Influenced by Nan Shepherd’s literary works and embracing the descent of the Heroine’s journey, contrasting the glorified heights of the archetypal hero, “Dreamer Awake” delves into the profound experience of skimming the surface of one’s existence, initially resisting the pull of the earth, only to gradually descend into the realm of darkness and the unknown with a mix of fear, willingness, and curiosity.
Sermanni eloquently describes this journey as mirroring the process of pregnancy, childbirth, and crossing the threshold into motherhood.
By delving deep into her psyche, reflecting on the transformation of becoming a mother, and processing the end of a long-term relationship, Sermanni has crafted songs that possess a keenness and emotional acuity, capturing the fluidity of our minds and the profound depth of our emotional encounters.
“Jacob” explores the break-up that preceded the album, the complex realisations that followed, and the important step of practising, or regaining, self-love. In Rachel’s own words, “This is a song that reflects on an ended relationship and the growing I’m doing thanks to therapy, a lovely therapist called Jacob and the VERY simple & clear tools he is offering me to help me see & understand old habits. Again, a kind of coming into power. A simple act of recognising that I’m loved, and worthy of love.”
Dreamer Awake is out September 15th on Navigator Records on CD, Digital and limited edition Ultra Clear Vinyl. Pre-order here
