Live Review: Luke Jackson @ Upstairs, Inverness – Fri 7 Nov
Canterbury-based singer-songwriter Luke Jackson returned to Inverness for an intimate solo acoustic show at Upstairs, joined by Scottish artist Liv Dawn.
Opening the evening, Liv delivered a heartfelt and beautifully assured set that featured songs from her debut EP Beautiful Daydream (released August 2023). Her songs carried a sense of calm and reflection – perfectly setting the tone for the night.
Luke took to the stage with his signature blend of folk, roots, and soulful acoustic songwriting, his powerful voice and intricate guitar work immediately filling the room. Just one song in, disaster struck when a string broke – but unshaken, he sat down to re-string while continuing to sing a cappella, never missing a note and earning an instant round of applause.
Between songs, Luke’s easy humour and engaging stories were a joy, giving the night a warmth that matched his music. His set drew from across his extensive back catalogue, alongside new songs from his latest album Bloom, each delivered with heartfelt authenticity.
He also took a moment to pay tribute to Highland music promoter Graeme “Rossie” Ross, who passed away in 2023. Rossie had brought Luke to the Highlands when he was just 18 and remained one of his greatest champions.
A spellbinding and uplifting evening from a performer who knows exactly how to connect – through songs, stories, and spirit.
